And it was fatal to both the raft and the swimming in the meaning "bringing ruin", as one of my dictionaries offer as a meaning. That said, fateful might be a better word - I have to think about that. I've tried Firefox but don't like its user interface. Anyway, considering you're not a native English speaker, I think your English is excellent. But since you're writing in English here, perhaps you might want to consider changing the headline for this entry. "Fatal accident" means someone has died, and since no one died in the accident, your headline is misleading and, frankly, alarming. Perhaps you meant "fateful" instead of "fatal"?
